Chain Letter Scam
Chain Letter Scam:
Among the many types of scams that are performed these days, there are lots of pyramid scheme scams. No matter if you want to or not, it’s possible to become a victim of this type of scam, the most frequent type of pyramid scheme scams being the chain letter scam, a trick that involves a huge number of people around the globe.
A chain letter scam can be performed through the post, or sometimes by e-mail or instant messages applications. Like any other pyramid schemes, this is a method to drain money from the accounts of thousands of users and to annoy millions with unwanted letters or spam e-mails. The success of those scams is guaranteed by the fact that the number of targeted people is growing with every step and that the amount of money required is small. Even if one percent of the people that receive such a letter or mail take it for granted and send the small amount of money, those who started the chain are making huge money.
In most countries it is illegal to send chain letters that involves money, but if we tolerate the received messages and don’t report it to the authorities, it’s impossible for the law enforcements to stop the chain. There is also a type of chain letter scam that doesn’t involve money, the kind of messages received in your inbox that say you’ll be cursed if you don’t read it and then forward it to 10 or more of your contacts. The purpose of those stupid messages is still unknown and it’s amazing how millions of people still send them away.
Perhaps the worst thing about chain letter scams even worse than the small financial loss is the fact that people who have been fooled and have realized they have been fooled will lose some of their faith in human kind and when they will encounter someone with a real need for a small financial contribution, they will be highly skeptical. However, that is not the case with all people, there are also repeat offenders in the sense that they keep falling for chain letter scams even though they might be subconsciously aware that they’re being scammed; thus making this type of business all the more profitable for the people running these schemes. |
