Travel Scams
Protect Yourself from Travel Scams:
Going on the dream vacation is so thrilling! Visiting places you’ve never been to or going back to the place where you felt like the happiest person on Earth is the thing you want the most. And it is all better when you can do this for a very small price. You have to be very careful with this, because there are a lot of travel scams that try to fool you, taking advantage of your desire to travel.
Here are some tips that should warn you if you are ever to be faced with travel scams. First of all, no serious travel agency will ask you to pay in advance for your trip unless there is a written contract that can prove the payment. Don’t fall for tempting phone calls; real agencies write down their offers. Never accept doing the transactions only by telephone. You need to have a written contract. Unless the agency does that, the policy is very suspicious and you have to call off the whole deal.
If the discount is too big, there always is something fishy about it and it is most certainly one of the travel scams we are talking about. More so if the deadline expires within a few days and you have to book your ticket immediately.
Make sure you know the name of the agency you are about to travel with, the name of the representatives of the agency, that they can be tracked down afterwards and especially that you know where you are going to, where you will be accommodated. All these names have to be specified in the written contract that both you and the agency representatives have to sign. If the company refuses to send you the contract through the postal service and it prefers to resort to a courier service, you have another clue that something might not be working right.
Another very effective tactic employed in travel scams is the one where the prices are split. You are offered a very good price only to find out after you have already paid it that you need to pay some more, and you get to pay the same price as the one on the market, or even more.
