Lottery Scams

How to Recognize Lottery Scams:

With all these communication channels that are available to us, such as Internet, for example, it is natural that we are exposed to a lot more dangers than the people who lived at the beginning of the 19th century, for example. The number of different kinds of fraud attempts is huge, and we can all fall victims to them. One of the most ‘spread’ fraudulent actions is the lottery scams series, and in order to manage to stay away from what these illicit messages imply in terms of money loss, we have to get a clear picture of what they mean and how they work.

Lottery scams are usually pulled through sending emails to a person and announcing him that he’s been the lucky winner of a money prize that can reach exorbitant sums, such as millions and millions of dollars. And as we would all probably like to be lucky enough to receive important amounts of money with no effort and no previous investment, we’re all potential victims.

There are, though, a few basic things that we have to consider before falling into these traps. First of all, there’s no such thing as winning without engaging in a certain kind of game (by buying a lottery ticket, for example). So, if you receive an email with this kind of announcement and you know that you didn’t do anything as to show that you’ve created a sort of possibility for such a prize, you have to tag the email as a part of lottery scams.

The way in which these people get money from their victims is by asking them to pay certain fees or taxes in order to actually get their prize. This is the basic mechanism of lottery scams: you are charmed with the idea of winning, and you forget that any lottery company pays these fees and taxes before assigning the prize. So, if you receive strange emails that advise you to go pay small amounts of money as soon as possible for receiving huge ones, you can be sure that they are not some wonderful events in your life, but merely tricks designed to make you spend the money you actually have over nothing.
